20 tips for a successful office relocation

Strategic planning for an office or corporate move can make the difference between costly downtime relocation and a smooth transition with few hours lost from work. If you are planning to move your office or relocate your business, the following tips can help you get the move done on time and on budget.

  1. Plan 6 months to 1 year before the relocation

Plan to move offices as soon as possible. Business relocations are often planned six months in advance, and large office removals may require up to a year of planning.

  1. Hire companies with experience

Hire a removal company that has extensive experience in commercial removals, as well as the resources and manpower required for an efficient office move. A company with experience in home moves is not the same.

Office removals need special skills. Check out our services here at Commercial Relocation and make sure you are able to move to your new office properly.

  1. Contract with insurance included

Make sure the moving company you hire has insurance and ask that a copy be faxed to you. Especially if you are moving multiple offices.

  1. Program with builders in charge

Schedule the move with the manager of the building you are leaving and entering.

Most likely, the move will need to be done outside of normal business hours, as most buildings will not allow moves during office hours. The best time for an office transfer is usually on the weekend.

  1. Double check the building requirements

Consult with building managers about any other requirements you must meet (each office building is unique). The building may limit the amount of time to park in the cargo area, require that floors be covered or protected, and that elevators be reserved in advance.

  1. Keep employees informed according to law

Talk to your employees about the move as soon as possible during the planning stage and keep them informed. Check with labor law regarding the amount of time a company must notify its employees.

  1. Manage printed address changes

Determine which printed materials, such as business cards, envelopes, and forms, will require address changes. Plan ahead so that you don’t order too much material from your printing press that will make it useless after the move.

  1. Announce the move

Create announcements about the move. Send them by email to your customers and suppliers so that they do not take surprise at the last minute.

  1. Coordinate the teams and plans

Unless you hire a full service, office moving company, hiring a removal coordinator can save you a lot of headaches. This person can coordinate with the moving team, furniture delivery, IT installation team etc.

The best moving companies have these professionals. If you don’t have this option to handle the details, at least create a sketch of the floor plan at the destination so those on the move know where to put the furniture.

  1. Manage packaging capacity

The week before the move, you may need help with packing, so be sure to check with your moving company ahead of time if they have staff available by then.

  1. Make inventory

Let the head of each department take an inventory of all the items that will move in your department.

  1. Make sure the destination is ready

Before the move, go through the new space with the building manager to make sure it’s ready for business (no broken light bulbs, leaks, electrical outlets, etc.).

  1. Find out about heating or refrigeration

Find out if cooling or heating will be on during the move, as some buildings turn these services off by default on weekends, unless they are told you need them.

  1. Transfer of plants

Most removal companies will not be responsible for moving the plants, so you will need to assign someone to be in charge of moving them.

  1. Give employees time to pack objects

Give employees a little time the Friday before the transfer to pack their stationery and any other materials that have not been packed by then. Ask them to take all of their personal possessions.

Ideally, together with the coordinator, it should be planned that the individual work objects of each employee are labeled so that once at the destination they are in the right place.

  1. Managers of origin and destination

It is advisable to have at least two managers present throughout the movement, one at origin and one at destination. However, only those managers must be present during the move.

If more employees are present, they will get in the way of the moving staff and slow down the process.

  1. Internet cables and IT data

Make sure all data cables are installed and tested before IT equipment arrives to set up the network and other equipment. Check with your moving company or moving manager if they need help with disconnecting IT and reconnecting services.

  1. IT team first

If you’re moving existing IT equipment, make sure it’s downloaded first so technical staff can immediately get to work setting up the network, phones, etc.

  1. Delicate objects and works of art

If you have a lot of artwork, academic credentials, etc., find a professional “picture hanger” in your area and schedule them to stop by the office a week or two after the move.

This will take a lot of stress off of management so there are fewer holes in the wall (due to mistakes) and so that everything in the office is hung in the correct way, with adequate lighting.

  1. Correspondence forwarding

Leave instructions in the building you are leaving to have all correspondence re-sent to you. In some cases, you can also notify your local post office.

Here at Commercial Relocations, our team is available 24/7 to provide the professional and personal assistance you need throughout the moving process. We make it easy for you, no matter if you own a large company or a small business. We can provide crates and other packing materials as well as solid advice on how to efficiently prepare for your move.

Time to pack your things in Suitcases!

Packing Suitcases is not easy, but you need to do it! And with this guide we will help you do it quickly and successfully. Take a deep breath.

If you follow these simple steps of planning it will be easier to undertake this adventure, and you will know from how to load the moving truck to how to face the inevitable moments of crisis. Remember that here at Five Star Removals we have a team of professionals ready to assist you. Contact us today for more information about it.

  1. a) Give away and recycle

The weeks leading up to the move are a good time to let go of items you no longer use. From clothing to utensils, surely there are objects that you have not used in months, even years! Many of them won’t be able to travel with you, so it’s time to decide if you want to leave them in a box accumulating dust for a few more years … or give them a second life.

How to give your objects a second life.

Take unused clothing to clothing and book containers to thrift stores or cultural facilities. The electronics and other objects (light bulbs, batteries, glass …) go to the clean or recycling point in your neighborhood; expired medications, to the pharmacy. In many localities, there is an assigned day for the collection of old furniture, which you have to leave at the home portal.

  1. b) To the boxes!

As soon as you know that you are moving, get a shipment of cardboard boxes of different sizes to store all the objects that you will not take. You can buy or order them in stores, especially first thing in the morning. A couple of weeks before the move, you can start filling them with the least important, while the essentials (for example, the basic kitchen utensils to continue cooking, the sheets, the towels) will be left for the last minute.

If you store small battery-powered appliances, remember to remove and recycle them beforehand. Distribute the weight well (for example, books can go in small boxes, or share a box with very light objects). Of all the objects, you will have to separate the few things that will travel in the suitcase to the new destination.

On the side of each box, glue a large piece of paper (if you put it in a better plastic cover, it will not be erased) where you write the place in the house where the content comes from and the box number (e.g KITCHEN 1 / 3, BATH 1/2, LIVING 1/1). On each piece of paper, write down the objects you keep in the box one by one. At the moment it may seem stupid to write “orange bowl”, “small towels” or “knife set”, but when you need to find something specific and you have to remove the boxes one by one … you will appreciate it!

  1. c) The suitcases

In the suitcases that will travel with you, you can only put the essentials. In our case, that translates, above all, into seasonal clothing, a few pairs of shoes and various items. Think that it is very likely that, once you arrive in the destination country, you can buy anything, so many objects can stay at home because their weight and space in the suitcase do not compensate.

A symbolic object

Although you will have to be practical, we recommend saving a space for an object that is not essential, but is special for you. The step of letting go of almost everything that was once yours is not easy; Although you know that you need almost nothing, somehow you get naked of the most basic possessions, those that defined your day to day. So, taking some non-essential object with you has an important symbolic value: with it you take who you are, a bond with home… The suitcase may be small, but there is always room for something special.

  1. d) Shipping boxes (optional)

Box shipping between some countries is fairly inexpensive, so you may want to consider setting aside one or two boxes of non-essential items that you would like to have later, and ask someone to ship them once you are installed. Check prices at different shipping companies and make a decision before moving.

Regarding the number of suitcases, many airlines allow you to check in a free suitcase (on long-haul flights), hand luggage (free) and other variable number of paid suitcases (flying to New York with American Airlines, for example, we can check up to 10 suitcases in addition to the free carry-on and the free suitcase). Taking into account that we only have two hands, make your own balances and think how many large suitcases you will check in, if you will use carry-on bags or backpacks … On the airline’s website you will find the measurements and the maximum weight allowed. We check in our two large, sturdy suitcases and two extra-large suitcases, cheap and of dubious quality, which we only use to transport clothes as a box. As hand luggage, we chose two backpacks, which allow you to carry one suitcase in each hand.

Divide the luggage between different suitcases

If you check two suitcases, try to distribute the contents so that, if one of them goes astray, in the other you also have the basics (for example, we divide winter clothing, underwear, etc. in two). As for the carry-on bag, it is always good to carry some basics in case unfortunately the checked luggage gets lost, in addition to the most valuable belongings (such as electronic devices).

Is moving really the most stressful situation after death?

People say that moving is the most stressful thing that can happen, not counting the death of a family member. Is this true? Are moving really worse than other important events in life, for example, suffering from a terminal illness, the death of parents, giving birth, being fired from work or taking care of a newborn who does not sleep at night?

The comparative data of stress levels caused by the different events are somewhat old.

The best-known scale is the Holmes and Rahe Social Readjustment or Stress Scale (SRRS), developed in 1967 by psychiatrists Thomas Holmes and Richard Rahe.

They asked people how stressful 43 different events seemed to them and made a list that measures the impact of those events, in which, for example, 100 points are given to the death of a spouse and 11 to minor crimes. This allows one to mark what has happened to him and calculate a total for the events of his life.

Then, we tried to use these data to find a connection between negative events like death and levels of depression and illness.

Moving does not even appear on this list. The closest events are having a very high mortgage in 20th place on the list, changing the standard of living in 28 and having a small mortgage in 37.

While SRRS is not the only scale of life events, we have not been able to find a scale that has removals at the top of the list. It is also debatable how useful these scales really are. For starters, we are not very good at remembering what or when something happened. We usually assume that they happened more recently. And in other cases, we forget them completely.

When a group of women were asked to mark the events that happened to them monthly and then to remember them after 10 months, only 25% of the events were on both lists, thus demonstrating how easy we forget things.

Coping with a move is, as a rule, overwhelming and stressful. Often, when it comes to moving all your belongings from one house to another, they become a huge mountain and we don’t know where to start.

Take a deep breath. If you follow these simple organisational steps it will be easier to undertake this adventure, and you will know from how to load the moving truck to how to deal with the inevitable moments of crisis.

Five Stars Removals does magic, and that is how we have been providing quality service as removalist in Adelaide for decades, helping people in Australia avoid all hassle and stress proper from these removals. Contact us today, we are the leading removalists in Adelaide and we are ready to help you.

Depends on the situation

The other problem with the scales is that they assume that a given event will always have the same impact, regardless of the situation. Losing employment causes stress but how much depends on the circumstances.

Losing a job that one likes is different from losing one that he hates, just like moving home can be a simple move forced by war or the need to leave his country forever. These situations are hardly comparable.

To this we must add the fact that the reactions to the same situation vary from person to person.

The idea that a certain event is inevitably stressful was denied years ago by the pioneer in psychology Richard Lazarus.

There are many factors at stake: it is not only about the event but about one’s vision of it and whether one feels that he has the strength to deal with it and a support network.

It also depends on emotions and knowledge; There are many people who thrive on stressful jobs because they enjoy facing challenges. Even when extreme events such as a natural catastrophe are taken into account, few are involved who suffer from post-traumatic stress; Most find a way to overcome it.

Everyday life

Day by day, for many, it is more stressful than moving from home.

Another type of approach to this issue is not based on measuring dramatic events, but the small discomforts of daily life, such as that one loses things or the devices do not work.

Perhaps this would be the ideal category for removals, since they certainly involve a lot of inconvenience. If one gathers all research on the causes of disease, important events are only responsible for 12% of the link, while daily discomforts are more closely related.

Keep in mind that the scales to measure the impact of daily discomfort allow one to decide if something stresses you, instead of deciding that a certain event is inevitably stressful. However, the important thing is how stressful you perceive a certain event, how much you think about it and if you think you can overcome it.

Pack the problems

In the end, although at the moment it seems the worst, the removals do not appear as particularly stressful events on the lists. So where are the removals in the daily discomfort studies?

According to a test group formed by middle-aged adults in the United States, “housing, investments and taxes” reaches eighth place, behind issues of weight, family health, home repairs, having too much to do and losing things. So, even on the daily hassle list, the removals don’t seem so bad.

Specific studies on moving stress are scarce, most deal with migration and involve many additional factors. There is a British study where 75% of respondents said moving to work was stressful at different levels. However, this does not tell us how it compares to other events.

In the end, there is little evidence that moving is almost as stressful as the death of a spouse or a divorce. Obviously, organising is key when putting a house inboxes. Where do I begin? And more importantly: Will we finish one day? We can help you finish as soon as possible! Here at Five Star Removals you will find experts ready to help you

Moving: what to pack, throw away and how to survive

Imagine that you have lived in a house for some years. Your house. An apartment not very big, but not very small either. Here you have been very happy, your sofa has hosted infinite friends (how good you decided to spend a little more), you’ve woken up accompanied, you’ve laughed, you’ve seen movies, you’ve cried, you’ve been on a diet and you’ve skipped it … end, here has happened all your life in recent years. You could go through it with your eyes closed without stumbling. And without realizing it, you have been accumulating things and things, as if one of your unconscious tasks was to fill each space, each shelf, each corner. Some flowers, that candle you liked so much, endless magazines, papers, papers … Until the day comes. Moving to a new place.

Obviously, organising is key when putting a house in boxes. Where do I begin? And more importantly: Will we finish one day? We can help you finish as soon as possible! Here at Five Star Removals you will find experts ready to help you.

  1. Time management

Before starting, our first advice is to mark a day limit. This will help you move forward and take advantage of time. Packing a whole house is an exhausting job that requires at least eight hours. Start early in the morning and take small breaks every three hours.

  1. The basics

Before you start you need all the elements of this list:

– Boxes of different sizes. You can order them in clothing stores, cosmetics and supermarkets that you have around the house.

– Scissors.

– Trash bags (several packages … you will be surprised).

– Several permanent markers.

– A notebook and a pen.

– A good list on Spotify.

  1. Where to start

Before starting, again, make a plan. Organizing work by zones can be very useful, because it will give you the feeling of moving forward. Conquered one, for the next. Thus, you can establish a room – lounge – bathroom – kitchen calendar. Kondo establishes a system in five steps and in this order: clothes, books, papers, objects and “the sentimental stuff”. Leave this last for the end because when you reach that point you will be relentless when it comes to distinguishing whether something is really important to you or not.

  1. The golden rule: what to throw away, what to donate, what to sell and what to keep.
  2. What to throw: All things that are not in good condition. As much as that shirt gave you so many joys, if you have spots of use, is deteriorated or you never got to sew that button that fell … out. The same with furniture that is not worth rescuing. This on the website of your town hall: there is a municipal furniture collection service at home.
  3. What to donate: All things that are in good condition but that you have not used for more than a year. Have you put on those pants that never convinced you in the last 12 months? Well, if you think someone could take advantage of them better than you, go directly to the donation bag. Check the clean spots of your city, there are also parishes and associations that accept clothes.
  4. What to sell: If you have the days counted for your move, be aware that you will not do business. Upload the photos as soon as possible and put a more reasonable price: how much would you pay for it?
  5. What to keep: Well, everything else. The clothes in good condition and that you wear is a good place to start packing. Here is a concept that we like very much: think about what things in your life you would take to a desert island. Those are the things that you have to keep.
  6. Start with the boxes.

The best advice here may not be so fast but it will be the best you can do: organise the boxes by themes (“coats”, “winter clothes”, “summer shoes”) and make a small inventory of what It carries each one. Take the permanent marker and put a number in the box: then take the pen and write down in a list what the box contains. This will be of great help when the day of unpacking arrives.

The second best advice is to start. It may seem that you do not know where to do it: simply start. Breaking the barrier of the first box can be a moment full of satisfaction.

The third great mystery is that you do not fill the boxes up. It is better that you put things inside well, and if you notice that the box starts to be very heavy, continue in a new box. This will make them much easier to transport. For that reason, we would recommend that you use medium sizes, and not large ones.

  1. Make photos.

If you have to pack appliances, or television, and you will not remember where each cable went next, make it easy for yourself: a visual chop.

  1. Clean every stay when you end with it.

This will give you a great feeling of comfort. You will see your progress and what you progress, something fundamental in the middle of the process, when everything looks black and there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

  1. And the final bonus:

When you finish, open a beer, get a glass of wine or whatever you like to toast. Celebrate what you have lived among those walls, remember the day you arrived, the things you have achieved in this time, how your life has changed. Treasure your memories and do not forget that experiences will never have to pack them. You are not the things you have: you are the things that you live and the people you choose to spend time with.

Thanks to our wide experience as furniture removalists in Adelaide, here at Five Star Removals we have a clear idea of what to do and what not to do when you move to a new house or, in case of a business, to a new office.

Protect your mattress and other soft objects

Whenever we have to make a move or even when cleaning at home that requires us to take material to the storage room, one of the big headaches with so much movement is knowing how to organize all our belongings & mattress. Furniture and large objects are on the one hand, since it is what will occupy us the most space and the first thing that we must place after the move; while the most everyday use, such as clothes, books, decorative objects, etc. goes for another. But in the face of all this marabunta of smaller things, the question arises of how to protect or pack these objects for moving or to take them to the storage room.

Consider hiring a removal company like Adelaide Furniture Removals, since problems and back damage can be much more costly in the long term, than using the services of relocation professionals.

Cardboard boxes

Cardboard boxes for packing are usually the first option and the most used when making a move or store in storage rooms, since they are available in different sizes, are recyclable and are not very heavy, in addition to varying thickness, which gives more or less protection to the content. In addition, some have bubble paper inside, which gives extra security, although they are not ideal for delicate materials. But with cardboard boxes not everything is good, since they have their negative side, since they are not the right packaging for wet places, since the cardboard can rot over time and end up ruining the contents of the box.

Other material boxes

To get an extra protection for the content we want to move or store there are numerous options, which will protect more against bumps or moisture, such as plastic boxes, which practically maintain the same lightness as cardboard boxes but provide that anti-humidity characteristic, since many of them have a tight seal, which allows you to preserve your belongings in good condition.

Another option may be wooden or metal boxes, which gives us greater protection against shocks and thanks to their hardness, allows us to stack them, which helps us to gain space; although usually these types of boxes do not have a tight seal that isolates them from moisture. They are usually suitable for storing more delicate objects but those that are not affected by moisture.

Individual packing

On the other hand, it is always good to apply individual packaging to the most delicate objects that have more ease to break or scratch, such as glasses, cutlery, decorative ceramic figures or furniture such as tables, cabinets, sofas, etc. All these belongings should be protected with plastic film, bubble wrap, tissue paper or foam protection, in addition to securing it with adhesive tape.

All these measures and forms of packaging are easy to acquire and will help us protect our belongings when making a move or store them in a storage room.

Moving: how to protect your mattress

The house change arrives, a move where we try to pack our things in the best possible way. Clothes in boxes, valuables well-padded and our mattress? How do we protect it from a trip to a new home? So that it does not arrive damaged or dirty when moving home, today we give you some tips to protect it and that you face the move with another face.

Tips to protect the mattress during moving

When we consider a change of housing, the dreaded moment of organizing the move is presented. With the passing of the years it is possible that we have gathered a large number of goods, among which are some of large dimensions that hinder their packaging and transport.

Each element of the move needs a different treatment. The fragility of each thing will need a specific packaging to ensure that during the transfer they do not suffer any damage.

Wrap mattress

With plastic for example to protect it from dirt and prevent moisture. Make sure it is well wrapped everywhere, reinforce the corners and edges well, otherwise it could get wet and you would have to dry it well before you can use it in your new home.

Place blankets under the mattress

To protect your mattress even more if possible, put old blankets underneath. This will also help to keep it from sliding inside the truck during transport and not sticking to other furniture.

Choose the moving vehicle well

It is preferable that you make the move with a closed truck, if it rains you will make sure that your mattress is still protected. Renting a truck is an easy and simple way to make a move without any furniture suffering from the road, it is already known that rainy days are very treacherous. Therefore, we also recommend that you look at the weather in advance. It is preferable that you make the move on a day that does not rain, although otherwise you can always cover your furniture with plastic to prevent them from getting wet.

Place the mattress between the furniture

You will prevent it from being damaged and traveling during the transfer. In addition, the mattress will act as a protector of both furniture, so you will be protecting double your objects.

Use a furniture repository

In the event that the mattress is going to remain unused for a while, it is best to rent a furniture repository to protect all your furniture, not just the mattress. Be sure to store it in a place with low humidity.

Don’t fold the mattress

It is very important that during the transfer do not fold the mattress, especially if the interior is made of springs.

In addition, you have the peace of mind of knowing that there is a great team of qualified personnel doing the job of movers in Adelaide, otherwise, would be a great investment of time, money and effort, both physical and mental. Here at Adelaide Furniture Removals you will find them. We will make sure your mattress will arrive safely to your new house or office.

Make a plan to move to Another State

Whether you have recently graduated from college or are a professional in the middle of your career, raising your roots and moving to another state brings several headaches. Is it better to hire a moving company or rent a truck? How will you secure your belongings during the transfer? What expenses will your new employer cover? Before taking out the boxes and packing tape, consider these 6 ways to simplify the moving process.

You better contact an expert on this area, here at Five Star Removals we can offer the assistance you need related to fixed price conveyancing in Melbourne provided by the leading office removalists in Adelaide.

  1. Make a budget and start saving

Shipping, fuel, hotel and insurance costs accumulate quickly. Add rental guarantee deposits and hire services in your new home and it will be clear that moving requires several upfront expenses that can drain your bank account. Making a budget and a savings plan to cover costs will help smooth the transition, but don’t rely on your old home’s security deposit to cover those costs. Sometimes it takes weeks or even longer for a landlord to refund your security deposit (check your rental agreement to make sure).

Your budget planning should not be finished when you arrive at your destination. The cost of living varies from region to region, and your current salary may not allow you to give yourself the same luxuries after the move. Use a life cost calculator to determine how far your current salary will take you in specific cities across the country and decide whether moving to another state is a smart tax idea.

  1. See what your employer will cover

Some companies cover transfer costs, but it is important to know exactly what they include in that concept. Your employer may reimburse you for the costs of shipping services, packing services, transportation and travel expenses associated with finding your new home, if you are moving specifically to take up the job. Negotiate during the hiring process and ask if your employer will cover other costs such as loan cancellation fees, real estate agent assistance, temporary accommodation and storage.

  1. Decide what you are going to move

Is it really worth moving a ten-year-old armchair that weighs 100 pounds and an old TV? Evaluate everything you own (especially bulky furniture and electronics) and determine if it would make no sense to sell the items before moving in and reinvesting your earnings into replacements once you arrive at your destination. Do not forget to consider what you could save in time, money and energy by not moving these heavy items. If you can’t afford to buy new furniture, consider looking for used items on websites that sell furniture online, use your moving truck to transport your findings.

  1. Get a refund in the next tax season

If you are moving for work and your move meets certain distance and time requirements, you can deduct the related expenses in the next tax payment season. Just make sure you keep receipts.

  1. Plan to have to pay state taxes for part of the year

While deducting expenses on your federal tax return at the time of filing, keep in mind that you may have to file two separate state tax returns when you move out of state. If you generated income in two different states during the fiscal year (unless you move to or from a state that does not charge individual income tax, you will have to file a statement in each state to cover the time you lived there.

  1. Research moving companies, truck rentals and shipping companies

Look for a good company that that will yourself and the company you transport. Although each service has its own advantages, prices can vary significantly:

Professional moving companies:

If you choose the full service, the company staff will pack, load, transport and unpack all your belongings, so all you have to do is tell them where to put the chair. Many people choose to pack everything themselves to save money and make sure they are handled properly.

Estimating the costs of a professional moving service is not as easy as entering a website. Moving companies like United Van Lines send an expert to your home to evaluate your objects and give you a budget. Unlike moving trucks and shipping services, moving companies often do not consider miles but the weight of cargo. Professional moving companies can be expensive, but their services will allow you to focus on other urgent issues of moving.

Truck rental companies:

Renting a moving truck is not for anyone. You have to feel comfortable driving a large vehicle without a rear-view mirror (and using the side mirrors), and you need to be aware of the additional length and width of the vehicle when changing lanes and manoeuvring through narrow streets. Most truck rental companies do not offer any training on how to drive a large truck, so people who do so for the first time may need time to adapt. Normally the only requirements to rent a moving truck are that the driver is 25 years old or older and has a valid driver’s license.

Truck rental companies usually base their rates on the size of the truck (measured in lengths between 10 feet and 26 feet), travel distance, days of use and insurance. Additional items such as carts for appliances (approx. $ 10 for two) and furniture protectors (approx. $ 10 for a dozen) are optional. Be sure to evaluate the size of the truck compared to your belongings so as not to pay for space you don’t need. Many rental trucks come with a crane so you can hook your car and take it with you. Do notforgettotakeintoaccount fuel costs.

Regardless of your decision you will need a team of responsible people that is committed to the task of delivering your goods to your new place without any trouble. Here at Five Star Removals we protect your belongings.

  • Use foam bags for plates, bowls and glassware
  • Covering the items with a plastic wrap and cushioning takes time and a lot of packing tape to secure.Instead, try using simple foam bags to store everything from crockery to glassware. All you have to do is slide the item into the foam bag and place it inside a box. You can find an example of a foam bag.

Notify the change of address

In order not to have problems with receiving the mail, notify the post office well in advance. You should also notify other institutions (banks, clubs, medical clinics) that they contact you through your current address (if you check the “change of address” box on your monthly bill you can now avoid having to call later). Finally, you will want to notify all your family and friends. Confirm with the moving company, here we have professionals ready to assist you.

Keep packing

Now is when the real physical work begins, but remember that you should not pack absolutely everything. There are some things that you will need on the day of the move, such as cleaning supplies (which should be available for those who do the last cleaning in your current home), toys for children and a limited supply of food and clothing. Also, and for obvious reasons, make sure that important documents, such as the contract you signed with the moving company, are not packed.

Find free moving boxes at recycling delivery points

Do not disburse your money in cardboard boxes. Instead, look for free mobile boxes at local recycling delivery points. Most likely, you can find a lot of cardboard boxes that have been discarded by companies. If you think about it too, it is a way to reuse the boxes ecologically.

Reuse of original boxes for electronics and appliances

Speaking of moving boxes, don’t forget to reuse the old ones. From the TV to the blender, most electronic and small appliances come in cardboard boxes.

If you still have these boxes, we recommend that you use them again for the move. This not only guarantees that your items fit perfectly in the box, but also prevents you from having to spend money on boxes.

Pack a box of essentials for the day

  • Do not move to a new house without a box or bag of basic items for the first few days.
  • This box must contain items and everything you may need on the day of the move (and on the following days).
  • Essential items may include toothbrushes, medications, toiletries, clothing, important documents, baby items, toilet paper, towels, cleaning spray, trash bags, a tool kit, pet food, bottled water, wallets and additional shoes.

Make a complete list of what you should include in your bag of essential moving elements.

Final preparation

Empty and clean the refrigerator. Get rid of all perishable foods. Set aside fragile and valuable items to handle them in a special way. Remove the interior doors to make moving people easier to manoeuvre large items. Don’t forget to leave food aside for the next day (for you and also the workers). Also set aside the medications and toiletries that you may need within 24 hours.

We are pretty sure that if you follow these simple steps of organisation it will be easier to undertake this adventure very quickly, and you will know from how to load the moving truck to how to face the inevitable moments of crisis.Remember that here at Five Star Removals we have a team of professionals ready to assist you. Contact us today for more information about our services.

How To Pick The Right Furniture Removals Service

You might be bored with your home furnishings and décor and have decided to upgrade. Or you have recently moved into a new home and are planning redecoration. As exciting as the task of redecorating seems, an important question arises, how does one go about removing the existing furniture? There are many interstate removalists Adelaide which offer services where they securely pick the furniture from the owner’s home. Some important factors need to be considered when choosing which furniture removal company will suit you best. Follow these tips to make sure you end up making the smart choice and make the furniture removals  process hassle-free.

#1 Right pricing

The pricing structure of furniture removal companies varies according to their capacity and expertise. You would want to ensure that you are not overcharged for the job done. Some companies charge in as per the number of heavy items that may require removing.  While other companies may check the weight before providing you with an estimate. Before finalising you need to be aware of what is it that the company is charging you for exactly. Interstate removalists Adelaide provide you with a free estimate by visiting your home and determining the exact cost for the service. Thus as a customer, you feel empowered and can make the right choice. Don’t jump on to the lowest price, as other factors need to be considered as well.

#2 Take a note on how they dispose of the furniture

The company you wish to go for should have a clear recycling policy. Ask them questions about the recycling policy, what do they do once the furniture gets picked up? Some companies follow eco-friendly recycling procedures while some have tie-ups with local donation centres. All reusable items should be salvaged to prevent useful materials from adding on to environmental pollution. With interstate removalists Adelaide, you can be assured that your furniture is not being dumped to create havoc on the environment. Each part of the furniture is carefully reused and recycled.

#3 Company’s insurance policy

Avoid unnecessary risk by choosing a company which has a strong insurance policy. Most professional furniture removal companies provide security to customers by being equipped with insurance. The staff and the customers should be fully insured to protect in case of an unforeseen disaster. A strong insurance policy like one of the interstate removalists Adelaide can take care of such circumstances.

#4 Time that the process takes

Once you hire professionals for service to sort, pick up and dispose of waste, it should not take them long to arrange for the entire process to be over. The company should value your time because as they say, time is money. A professional company like the interstate removalists Adelaide can pick up your waste furniture within 24 – 48 hours of the first call.

#5 Should be well equipped with resources

You want to ensure that the company you go with is equipped with all the right resources to handle the process. You can check that they should have an appropriate number of skilled workers who are assigned for the process. You must be aware of the range of the work that the company is capable for. This will ensure that you do not face any glitches and hurdles due to minor issues. Interstate removalists Adelaide display versatility in their range of work and expertise and ensure that the entire process goes smoothly.

#6 Certification and Licensed

The professionals taking up the assignment should be skilled and must have adequate knowledge about the task they are undertaking. They should be specialised in handling all kinds of waste and the proper techniques of picking and disposing of it. For example, hazardous and non-hazardous waste should be separately handled and disposed of. With interstate removalists Adelaide you can be ensured that well trained and skilled professionals will take you through the entire process smoothly.

#7 Customer Service

Customer service shows how worthy you are for the company. A good way to ensure that the company is responsive and will remain so when they have been hired is by judging the first contact call that you make. What is the response like? Do they address your questions with honesty and patience? Also, keep a note of what are the ways that you can reach the customer care in case of emergency or queries. Does the company maintain an updated website? These questions will tell you about the quality of the customer service that the company will provide. At interstate removalists Adelaide, each customer is valued, and a 24/7 customer care is provided. Be it addressing of doubts, queries, and emergencies, and they will attend to your every call and need.

#7 Past projects and Customer reviews

If you are considering a company, look up for the kind of testimonials and reviews that they get from their customers. Determine the kind of projects they have worked on. The company will have enough reviews documented work in the form of customer testimonials, before and after pictures, blog posts, and reviews. This will help you understand the actual performance of the company. 10 things you should do when you move to a new house

Before moving, it is important that you know everything you need to do so that your new home is ready to be enjoyed without problems.

Imagine how terrible it is to get to your new home and not have electricity, gas or water. And in case you have those services, your surprise will be worse when you see that the air conditioning or heating does not work, there is an electrical problem or leaks, among other things. To avoid these nightmares, take action in advance. Here are the most important things to keep in mind.

Remember that here at LA Webb Construction you will find skilled professionals who are proud members of the Western Australia Master Builders Association.

  1. Make an inspection of your new home in time.

Check the electrical circuit box or board, making sure that the labels next to each switch that, for example, say: Kitchen, Bathroom, Room, etc., are located correctly. Do this operation by removing or disconnecting each switch (one by one) to find out which room in the house they belong to. You can also hire an electrician to check the condition of the electrical box (panel or board) and if it is necessary to repair or replace it with a new one.

  • Check fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to see if they work well, need batteries or need replacing.
  • Buy fire extinguishers.
  • Have a professional inspect the air conditioning / heating unit, the water heater, etc.
  • Locate the water stopcock. It is important to know where the stopcock is, to be able to close it quickly if necessary.
  1. Report your address change at the post office and contact the credit card companies.

Before moving, you must notify your address change at the post office to make sure you start receiving your correspondence in your new home. Contact the credit card companies to avoid omitting the payment of an invoice, because it arrived at your previous address or was lost.

  1. Contact the utility companies.

When you arrive at your new home you will want to have basic services, such as electricity, gas, water and sewage, cable, Internet, telephone. So, contact those companies in advance to set the date of transfer of those services to your new address.

  1. Update the important documents.

One month before moving, update your driver’s license, your vehicle registration and your voter registration card.

  1. Change the bolts.

If the house is empty and you have not yet moved, it is a good idea to change the door locks. Otherwise, change them the same day you move. Better safe than sorry.

  1. Check the status of your home address sign on the facade.

Your home address number should be clearly seen, especially if you will make the move with an agency. In addition, you will need your address to be distinguished well for the mail carrier, postal delivery services, restaurant delivery services and your visits to see them. Buy a new sign if necessary.

  1. Identify emergency exits in case of fire or catastrophe.

Make sure the whole family knows how to leave the house in case of fire or any other catastrophe. Generally, everyone thinks of the main door of the house as the best option to escape outside, but it is good to have extra options if you cannot use the main door.

  1. Fumigate and do a deep cleaning.

If your new house is empty and you have access to it before moving in, be careful to spray. Even if you don’t see insects, they are very likely to exist. You will not want to spray with strong chemicals when the family is present and the furniture is already in place. Once the fumigation has taken effect, it is a good time to do a deep cleaning of floors, walls, windows, etc. As the house is empty you can clean even the most hidden corners, which will not be so easy once the curtains and furniture are in place.

  1. Check your inventory list to see if your belongings arrived well.

So, you have made the move yourself or with a moving company, check what you have against your inventory list to make sure all your belongings arrived well. If you used a moving company, you can claim lost or damaged items. And if necessary, you can claim your insurance agency.

  1. Have a medicine cabinet ready.

Moving is conducive to someone scratching, hitting or simply giving them a headache. Keep it ready because it will continue to be very useful in the future. Place it in a place in the house where adults can access it, away from the reach of children, regularly checking that the medications are in effect. At the door of the medicine cabinet, put a label with the telephone numbers of your local emergency contacts. With these preventive measures, you can send your new address to all your contacts and have a party to open your new home.

Bear in mind that you can not take the same thing from point A to point B. When you get to a new home, it’s like starting from scratch; New life, new energy, new blur opportunities and new account. And when you take ALL things without CLEARING, it’s like taking the past to a new space.

Free yourself from attachments and start from scratch! We recommend you to support yourself with signs that will help you to debug in the process before moving. Remember: donation, garbage, friends and family and recycling.

Normally cleaning and packing our house takes a lot of time and when there are more family members involved, we all want to move forward and do things in our spare time. Which means that when you want to use the cinnamon tape, you obviously can’t find it because “someone” used it more. And so, with scissors and down, etc.

Remember that here at LA Webb Construction you will find skilled professionals who are proud members of the Western Australia Master Builders Association. Contact us today to learn more about our services.

Moving to a new house: the most stressing thing after death

People say that moving to a new house is the most stressful thing that can happen, not counting the death of a family member. Is this true?

Are the changes really worse than other important events in life, for example, suffer a terminal illness, the death of parents, give birth, be fired from work or take care of a newborn who does not sleep at night?

The comparative data of stress levels caused by the different events are somewhat old.

The most well-known scale is the Holmes and Rahe Social Adjustment or Stress Scale (SRRS), developed in 1967 by the psychiatrists Thomas Holmes and Richard Rahe.

They asked people how stressful 43 different events seemed and made a list that measures the impact of those events, in which, for example, 100 points are given to the death of a spouse and 11 to misdemeanors. This allows you to mark what happened to you and calculate a total for the events of your life.

Do not forget that we can assist you with your removal, visit our website Adelaide Furniture Removals and choose a team of experts that will take care of your things. With the services of our cheap furniture removalists in Adelaide you can ensure the success of your removal.

What’s worse

In the list, the first place is the death of a spouse and the second the divorce. In third place is marital separation and then going to prison and the death of a close family member.

Moving is not even on this list. The closest events are to have a very high mortgage at number 20 on the list, change the standard of living at 28 and have a small mortgage at 37.

While the SRRS is not the only scale of events in life, I have not been able to find a scale that has the changes at the top of the list. It is also debatable how useful these scales really are.

For starters, we are not very good at remembering what or when something happened. We usually assume that they happened more recently. And in other cases, we forget them completely. When a group of women was asked to mark the events that happened to them on a monthly basis and, later, to remind them of them after 10 months, only 25% of the events were on both lists, showing how easy it is to forget things.

Depends on the situation

The other problem with scales is that they assume that a given event will always have the same impact, regardless of the situation. Losing employment causes stress but how much depends on the circumstances.

Losing a job that you like is different from losing one you hate, just like moving from home can be a simple change forced by war or the need to leave your country forever. These situations are hardly comparable.

To this must be added the fact that reactions to the same situation vary from person to person.

There are many factors at play: it is not only about the event but about the vision one has of it and if one feels that it has the strength to deal with it and with a support network.

It also depends on emotions and knowledge; There are many people who thrive in stressful jobs because they enjoy facing challenges.

Even when extreme events are taken into account as a natural catastrophe, few people suffer from post-traumatic stress; most find a way to overcome it.

The everyday basis

Day to day, for many, it is more stressful than moving away from home.

Another type of approach to this issue is not based on measuring dramatic events, but the small annoyances of daily life, such as that one loses things or that the devices do not work.

Maybe this would be the ideal category for the removals, as they certainly involve a lot of inconvenience. If one gathers all the investigations on the causes of diseases, the important events are only responsible for 12% of the bond, while the daily discomforts are more closely related.

Keep in mind that scales to measure the impact of daily discomforts allow one to decide if something stresses, instead of deciding that a certain event is inevitably stressful. In any case, the important thing is how stressful you perceive a certain event, how much you think about it and if you think you can overcome it.

Pack the problems

In the end, although at the moment it seems the worst, the changes do not appear as particularly stressful events in the lists.

So, where do the removals appear in studies of daily discomforts?

According to a test group consisting of middle-aged adults in the United States, “housing, investments and taxes” is eighth, behind weight issues, family health, home repairs, having too much to do and losing things. So, even in the list of daily annoyances, the removals do not seem to be that bad.

Specific studies on stress by removals are scarce, most are about migrations and involve many additional factors. There is a British study where 75% of respondents said that moving for work was stressful at different levels. However, this does not tell us how it compares with other events.

In the end, there is little evidence that moving is almost as stressful as the death of a spouse or a divorce.

A change metaphorically represents the law of one’s life marked by change. Stress arises by leaving behind the force of habit, since each person has their own routines and comforts in their home, an environment that represents, from the point of view of coaching, their comfort zone. That is to say, the place where you feel safe one hundred percent. A change of house removes the person from their comfort zone from the physical and emotional point of view.

When making a move, the family has to adapt not only to a new house but also to integrate into a new neighbourhood, discover where the shopping and leisure areas are, know where the nearest library is or which is the best itinerary to go to work … That is to say, a change of house brings with it many other changes that can generate stress.

Remember that the most suitable option to ensure there will be no damages in your plants or pets is to choose a professional team of cheap furniture removalists that will provide you with second to none quality removals, here at Adelaide Furniture Removals you’ll find them.

Moving: what to pack, what to throw away and how to survive

The most important thing about a move is the packaging, because if you use a good packing technique, you will ensure that your most precious items arrive intact to your new home.

So, take note, why are we going to give you 5 tips on how to make a move and pack perfectly. Let us begin!

  1. Start packing at least 2 weeks before the big day

We recommend that you start packing two weeks before the day of the move. So, when the day comes, you will have everything ready to make the transfer.

Pack things you do not use in your day to day, such as books, clothes from the previous season, decoration figures, etc.

  1. Plan the Packaging Material that you will need

The second advice we give you so you know how to make a move is to plan the Packaging Material you will need. Depending on the number of people who are going to make the move or if it will be from a house or a flat, you will need moving boxes. In addition to using cardboard boxes to pack your things, you will also need Bubble Plastic to protect the most fragile objects.

Also, you will also have to have at hand Adhesive Tape to close the boxes correctly. Although it is not a priority, it is also recommended to have some airtight bags to store, for example, the screws of the furniture that you disassemble. Being such small objects, it is very easy for them to get lost during the move.

In Cajadecarton.es we have Packs of Boxes for Removals with Packaging Accessories so that you do not miss anything in your move. In addition, with these Packs you will have no doubt about how to make a move thanks to the following accessories:

  • Different measures of cardboard boxes
  • Bubble plastic
  • Scotch tape
  • Cutter to open the boxes more easily
  • Airtight bags

Adhesive labels with the “Very Fragile” printing to notify which are the boxes that have to be treated with more affection

Wardrobe box so you can store your clothes

Adhesive labels to write the inventory of the contents of the box. So, when you are in your new home. It will be much easier for you to find where your things are.

And a long etcetera of packing material to make your move much easier.

how to make a move

  1. Pack with order

It is better to pack room by room, since later it will be much easier and faster to unpack everything in the place where it corresponds.

On how to make a move, it is also advisable to make an inventory with the number of boxes you have per room. Number all the boxes and you will know what is the first you have to unpack when you arrive at your new home.

Save a box for each member of the family, this will be the “survival” box. Where you will have to put a few changes, toothbrushes to be able to spend the 2 or 3 days after the move and until everything is in place.

Mark these boxes to identify them and upload them last in the truck, so you can identify them more quickly.

  1. Pack carefully

For heavier objects (for example books), we recommend that you use small moving boxes. Since if you want to know how to make a move, this is a trick that will help you a lot, because later it will be easier to carry the boxes with ease.

As for the dishes, you will have to wrap them with Bubble Plastic (no need to wrap them one by one). And, inside the box, place them vertically, because in this way they are more resistant to blows. Then, you will have to fill in the gaps with Bubble Plastic to prevent them from moving during the move.

For glasses, it is necessary to wrap them one by one with Bubble Plastic. Then, keep them standing and, as you have done with the dishes, fill in the gaps that may remain.

Also, as we have told you before about how to make a move, in the Movings Packs you will have stickers with the “Very Fragile” printing to notify the boxes that carry this type of objects.

  1. It is time to make the move

In this post where we explain how to make a move, we could not skip the transfer process. In it all the boxes are loaded in the truck or in the van.

If you have hired a Movers, they will know how to do it. In case you are the one who makes the transfer, you should optimize the space as much as possible.

First you will have to load the heavier and bulky objects, such as furniture or appliances. Think of distributing them correctly in the truck or in the van to distribute the weight.

Other 2 mini-tips that you cannot miss:

  1. Do not use the Adhesive Tape to close the drawers or cabinets of the furniture, since later it will be very difficult to remove the glue. Use the Adhesive Tape only to close the boxes for removals.
  2. Household appliances (such as computer, tablet, laptop, etc.). In addition to wrapping them with bubble wrap, we suggest you also wrap them with blankets and clothes. Since being such fragile objects, it is better to protect them in the best way you know.

With our cheap furniture removals in Adelaide you can rest assured your furniture will be taken to its destination completely safe. Find more information in our website Five Star Removals.

What is the best time of the year to move?

Planning a move requires a lot of logistics. The transport, the transfer of goods and the installation in the new home or office is not always easy, especially when it must be complemented with other types of responsibilities, such as going to work, taking care of the children or taking them to school. It can be an exhausting task and that is why many are clear about the best time of the year to make the change.

Pros and cons of making a move in summer

For many it is. In the first place, it is a holiday season, which implies having more time to devote to the task of moving the goods from one place to another. In addition, traffic in many cities decreases because people often go on a trip or to the beach to take advantage of the hottest days of the year.

The flexibility offered by this season allows families to settle in time and leave everything ready for when the post-holiday routine returns. The problem is that everyone has the same idea and that many companies close for vacations, so the summer can be a complicated time to get a quick and smooth move.

Dates are usually reserved well in advance and the availability of moving companies is more limited. Some even make additional charges to guarantee the service on dates that are already reserved.

Why it is better to move in winter

Many people discard the changes in winter because the weather and daily work can complicate logistics. However, all the procedures related to changes of address are usually much lighter and faster in this season of the year.

As the number of people moving during these dates is lower, the administrative paperwork is completed more quickly. On the other hand, moving services tend to have lower demand, especially in large cities. The lack of demand represents a benefit for customers because they have many more dates available to contract the service and can get attractive offers quite competitive.

It is important to know well the company that is hired, the different services offered, the professionalism of its employees and if it meets the requirements. For this the best thing is always to look for references on the internet and consult the opinions of other clients who have contracted their services.

Companies like Adelaide Furniture Removals stand out for making sustainable removals in Australia and surrounding areas with good results. This is a specialized company with demonstrable experience, guarantee seriousness and offer the best customer service to minimize the stress generated by a move, whether from a family home or a company.

When it comes to trusting your own assets to a third party, you have to make sure you choose correctly to avoid possible problems. Non-professional moving services may be cheaper at first, but they also generate more insecurity and offer fewer guarantees throughout the process.

What about moving to another state or country?

Carrying out an international move is a complex task that involves the previous planning of many aspects and in which many procedures to manage come into play. Often, deciding a certain time of the year in which to carry out the transfer of all our belongings can mean a certain cost savings and bring some advantages that will help make the move more bearable.

The winter months are usually the best option for an international move. Basically the advantage of this time of the year is that the volume of removals is not so high, therefore it is possible to find very competitive offers and there is more availability of dates for the transfer.

Another important aspect is the care of our furniture and furnishings. During the summer, there are companies that have the need to hire new staff constantly to meet the high demand for the service. Otherwise it happens in the winter, when the personnel is the most habitual, therefore more experienced and offers more security in the transport of our belongings.

Disadvantages of moving in summer

The holiday periods, which mostly coincide with the summer dates, are the ones that demand more of this type of services, so the prices of the removals tend to increase. In addition, if you do not plan well in advance it is quite complicated to organize a move, because the requests for this type of service is high, although there are exceptional cases in which paying an extra it is possible to make changes outside of the previous planning.

Whether in summer or winter, the important thing is to ensure that the entire transfer procedure proceeds quickly, efficiently and, above all, with the assurance that all the furniture and furnishings move with total guarantee of not suffering damage.

In short, it is about getting time to pay without the need to pay for a service excessively, but without ignoring the quality of it and the necessary guarantees to get a move in the deadlines previously agreed and with all the security of working with expert personnel in the displacement of our belongings.

International economic move

Getting a cheap international moving will depend fundamentally on the destination and the type of shipment. A small move to Europe can come at a good price if you are not in a hurry, as there is the possibility of grouping or combinations of charges to adjust costs. Even to certain destinations in America, Africa or Asia, there is the possibility of obtaining economic prices provided that the means of transport is maritime and with the option of groupage or consolidated transport.

International maritime removals are cheaper, although the transit time is usually longer. In the middle are the international terrestrial changes that fluctuate between 2-5 days if they are exclusive and around 10-15 days if they are combined or in groupage. As for international air removals, they are a good option when they are low volume, they are more expensive but they arrive in 5-7 days to transoceanic destinations. Air shipments are ideal for small removals with the most necessary personal effects and it is urgent that they arrive quickly

There are costs in destination that cannot be known until the shipment arrives at port, for example the thc, fees, etc., these costs depend on the shipping company and the days it takes to carry out the customs clearance, therefore It is very difficult to quote them and know them in advance. Likewise, expenses generated by inspections, inspections, strikes, delays due to lack of documentation, bad access at destination, storage not previously contracted, second deliveries, haulage, transhipments due to bad access, etc. are not included.

Here at Adelaide Furniture Removals you will find a team of experienced people who will surely take good care of your valuable belongings while carefully handling them and transporting them to your new place.

Moving to the new house, here are some tips to adapt to the new house

The moment has fled, finally we will have our own house; however, there are a number of things to consider before living comfortably in our home. Moving first and adapting afterwards is not a simple process, here are some simple tips.

For example, a couple, a middle-class family, finally managed to make true their lifelong dream: to acquire their own house, behind the comings and goings in rental flats, little stability, constant changes in habits and customs, discomfort to move from one place to another; they had just taken a big step and as the man went from erratum to become sedentary and settle in a land, they could finally live as they should, in one place and in a roof that belongs to them.

Many people, who do not have a house of their own, might want to be like this couple; However, do not think that this is an easy process, it’s a long way to go, that starts with the decision to buy a flat and goes through the difficult thing that is to save with what the economy is and then find the right place to live.

Now what we want to convey is that the problem does not end there, having the home is the first step, the second is to adapt ourselves and help our children to feel comfortable with this new life.

A removal can be a complicated and delicate experience for a family, especially when you have children, it involves many changes, some simple and others really complicated, even going to the field of the psychological. The changes always affect, bother a little, turn into an inconvenient for some, give us extra work, we need time, we invest money and above all things we bother the lives of our children.

Here at Five Stars Removals as a long-standing moving company, we have experience in working as reliable furniture movers in Adelaide. We can help you move to a new place!

The first step after moving

Children find it more difficult than an adult to adapt to a new environment, for them not only is acceptance in the new neighbourhood, but also feel included in the school environment, or if they are older, in the institute or university. Therefore, we advise you that a first step before moving to the new house is to position in the minds of our children the why, they will have the question latent at all times, because we move, because to that house, because to that neighbourhood, etc… The truth is the best, explain clearly the real reason and the improvements that this will entail in your lifestyle.

One way out of the previous mess is to say, for example, “we moved because we will finally have our own house, we will not have to move anymore and you can lead a better life and have friends for as long as you want”. We can also add the “gains” that are obtained by having a bigger house, own and if you can new, one of them is to mention the detail of “you will have your own room” or “the house has a nice playground to play”.

The family dialogue is also important, if the family is more or less numerous, say about five members, we must promote a “dialogue table”, exchanging opinions about the good and the bad of the new house. As heads of family take note of the things that are considered bad, in order to find the best solution to them, once they are living in the new house.

Focus on what matters the most

We must set our children in this new life and of course set ourselves. It is good to take a stroll around the place where our new home is, visualise the routes to the important places, visit the shopping centre, the corner store, the places of recreation for children, the cinema, see what accommodates us and what do not. Places for children photographed with digital, this way they can teach their children when they return, the benefits of the new area where they will live.

Before beginning the actual moving process, remember that it takes some time and requires some planning. It is good and healthy to make a schedule of execution of the process, as well as to establish a budget and the necessary contacts with the removal agency to carry it out. It must be budgeted from the packing tape, through the boxes, markers, bags, and others.

Another separate issue is the packaging process, the work must be joint, it is good that the children participate in this process, take into account the “favourite” things of their children, pack them separately and consider that these things are the first things that should be unpacked in their new rooms. The favourite items of our children should be part of the decoration in their bedrooms; If it is possible to recreate some familiar environments of the old house or places that have been preferred, the idea is to make children feel “at home”.

When packing things, consider making an inventory of what they pack in each box. This inventory must be attached to each package with a copy that you will keep, indicating both the box and the copy sheet, the corresponding box number.

Finally, should not forget that a new house is a reason to celebrate, even if it’s funny, throw a party, celebrate with the family and if possible, invite the new neighbours, maybe they also have children. This first meeting is a way to interact with the new neighbourhood and integrate into the social life of this that will be your new world.

Always remember that in a moving the most important thing is not things, nor the new house, your children are the central theme, they should spend more time and be attentive to any doubts, questions or concerns they may have regarding the process to adapt to this new life.

Remember that you can contact us if you want to have your furniture safe during a removal. Here at Five Star Removals we will be happy to assist you.

Moving to a new place? Learn how to pack crystals properly

Are you about to move to a new house and still do not know how to properly pack the crystals? Today, we provide you with some suggestions. In addition to being packed with bubble wrap, the glass and glass should be reinforced with corrugated cardboard before placing the objects in the boxes.

Normally, when the organisation of a change of house begins, the first part that generates concern is the disarmament and packaging of furniture and appliances, so one considers aspects ranging from the size to the value of the object at the time of packing. However, when talking about fragility, there are items that deserve even greater attention and an example of this is the crystals, which need to be packed with extreme care and with adequate materials to prevent them from getting damaged in the new house.

Do not forget that we can assist you with your removal, visit our website Adelaide Furniture Removals and choose a team of experts that will take care of your things.

Although it is not a complicated process, it does require a lot of care. To help you, we selected three tips on how to package crystals:

  • Use proper packaging: The crystals are sensitive and can break when subjected to shocks and sudden movements. However, if the pieces are packed with the right materials, the impact is less. When it comes to protecting them, one of the best materials is the bubble-plastic. In addition to cushioning the blows, it is easy to use, it can be obtained in specialised stores and it is not very expensive. In addition, you can always save it for another move or to protect objects that you want to keep in the cellar, attic, attic, among other places.
  • Keep cardboard boxes handy: After packaging, the crystals must be packed in a cardboard box. But beware, avoid placing many items in the same box. The spaces between the pieces can be filled with crumpled newspaper, because, as well as being cheap, it prevents the pieces from moving during transport. And if you want a system that is even safer for transport the crystals during the change, you can resort to boxes with drawers. They are lined with foams and are produced just for that type of transport. Obviously, the cost is higher and not all companies work with that type of packaging, so it is difficult to get.
  • Identify the boxes: It is useless to take all the necessary care when packing the glass for a change if there is not the same care during the loading. To avoid that the boxes are in the middle of heavy furniture or in places with risk of falling, it is essential that you mark them as “fragile”. In this way, they can be conditioned in a safe place inside the truck.

Objects that deserve special attention

Glasses and crystal chandeliers are among the most delicate items and deserve special attention. In these cases, in addition to being packed with bubble wrap, it is important to reinforce the protection with corrugated cardboard before placing the objects in the boxes.

If you are the type you prefer not to pack and want to make sure that everything arrives in perfect condition at your destination, the way may be hiring a company specialised in packing glass, so you will only have to worry about them arriving. to your new address.

Are you moving to another place?

Moving to a new house, apartment or loft means having a new start, brand new furniture, meeting new neighbours. Everything may seem perfect (because people usually love new things, unless they are resilient to changes) until we start making boxes to another place. To start a new life properly, you need to avoid having a traumatic moving experience. Today we will review some suggestions that will help you carry out a proper removal.

1. Get ready!
A removal is the ideal opportunity to clean up and get rid of all those things that you do not use or do not need. If you are that kind of person who prefers to accumulate stuff, you may face the problem of not having enough room in your new place. In that case you may want to rent a storage room or sell some things that you know you will not need in the future. A storage room is also a great place to put beach chairs, umbrellas, even the summer clothes or other things that you know you will not use until a certain time of the year.

Once you have organised well all your stuff, take a look at that elevator in your building (in case you live in an apartment) and determine if it can be used to move furniture. Park your car near your house’s door.

2. Survival kit
Think about the next day, or even the night after the removal, if you do not want to sleep on a mattress without sheets. Bedding, towels, pajamas and a bathroom bag are some of the things you cannot box when you are moving out. You need to rest that night and probably have a shower after so much stress.

3. Doing it yourself or hiring someone to do it instead.
Depending on several factors you may want to hire a company specialised in removals. Here at Five Star removals we take pride in offering customers around Australia a reliable service to reduce considerably the amount of complications they would have during a removal. By leaving all the hard work in the hands of a group of qualified experts with years of experience in the industry of removals, you make sure stress and other aspects of your removal will be kept as low as possible and you will be able to enjoy this experience.

At Adelaide you will be able to hire quality services in Australia at a quite affordable price. We take pride in offering the most competitive rates available.

4. Moving out by yourself
If you do it by yourself you will most likely need the help of your friends or relatives, and sacrifice the entire weekend for the task. You will have to rent a van or ask one of your relatives if they can help you out with one of their vehicles (in most families, there is some with a van or something like that. If you want to put everything in a van, you will need at least 18m3 capacity. These vehicles can be rented per day or just for one trip, taking all your things at once. With this you will save from a lot of hassle but you will still need to box and organise everything.

5. Putting everything in a box
If you have everything ready, you need to start about three weeks before the day of the removal. You can start by collecting the boxes of merchants in the area and if you do not have enough of them, they will cost around $2. If you do not want to interrupt your daily routine and dedicate an entire day to put everything in boxes, you can do it day to day. Take one day to put all your books inside a box, then another one to put all your clothes inside as many boxes as needed and so on. Extra tip: Even if the box is large (or very large) do not load it to the top because you will not be able to move it properly.

6. How to package an entire house?
Follow a sequence. Save each room separately and mark each box with the name of the room to which it corresponds. Do not forget to make an inventory (it can be as simple as a list) And if you do not want anything to break during the removal, get yourself a roll of bubble wrap or old sheets, and wrap up all fragile objects.

7. Time to disassemble the furniture
First of all, make sure you have not lost anything. Put the screws and small pieces of each piece of furniture in plastic bags, specifying the furniture in question. And if things get complicated, make a sketch. This way, it will be easier to mount it again.

8. Inside the van
Make good use of space. First, put in the bulkiest furniture, then the heaviest boxes, so that they secure the furniture, and the lighter ones on top of everything. Loose pieces need to be fixed with ropes. An extra tip: wear comfortable and loose clothing, which allows you to move freely. Try not to carry a lot of heavy stuff, take care of your back.

9. Arriving to your new house
Finally, you arrive at your new home, although there are so many things to unpack that you do not know where to start. Quiet! Breathe and start. First, assemble the furniture, then undo the boxes, try to double them at the same time so they will occupy less space, and finally, plug in the fridge (remember that at least 24 hours must pass for this step).

10. Everything in its place
Start by placing things in the kitchen and bathroom (you will most likely need to remove a significant number of boxes). Then, the living room, which is normally the room where there are more things to place. Now is the best time to organise the library by authors or genres.

Why are lifting vehicles so important?

Loading and unloading processes are very much a necessity in most industries, becoming one of the core components of many businesses today. That’s the reason why lifting vehicles are of critical importance on these tasks.

Lifting vehicles are a great investment as a result of the money and energy saved on labour. Lifting vehicles can also handle large amounts of materials, thus saving time and physical labour that would be taking up resources including money.

It is evident that lifting vehicles are part of our lives now and they are like colossal hands we can use to build whatever we want or need. So in this article we’re going to make clear what kind of tasks are carried out by each one.

The Telehandler

When it comes to rural grounds, the rules of loading equipment change completely. Keeping control is a much harder task when there is some kind of prominence in the road. The most used vehicle for this kind of tasks is the telehandler.

A telehandler is a vehicle made with the main purpose of carrying loads in installations where heavy loads need to be moved and elevation is required. Depending on the kind of materials and how heavy they are and the elevation level required there are different telehandlers for each scenario.

Telehandlers are made in order to move on irregular grounds, and they are very important for construction tasks, that’s why the wheels are usually very big and rough. If you need any kind of help with your telehandler do not hesitate to call us, we are the telehandler experts. We offer assistance in aspects such as:

  • Parts
  • Hire
  • Sales
  • Training
  • Services and maintenance

Just as for any other lifting vehicle, we are the solution.

The Tractor

Tractors are a classic among lifting vehicles. They are used for many purposes but mostly for dragging and pushing heavy materials. Since they first entered the industries they have become an essential part of constructions, agricultural practices, and many other activities.

There are different types of tractors made especially for a type of tasks. The use of tractors has allowed employers to decrease money spent in personnel considerably. Before there were any tractors, these kind of jobs were carried out by people with the help of animals such as donkeys, steers and mules.

As it is such a versatile vehicle, it has been modified into different types of vehicles. Sometimes parts are added to it in order to make it useful for other tasks. The three main types of tractors are:

  • Agricultural tractor: usually uses implements for tasks such as towing and other agricultural tasks.
  • Construction tractor: it generally comes with different accessories and attachments like shovels or backhoe’s loaders.
  • Motocultor: it’s small and mostly used for Mediterranean agriculture.

And depending on the methods the use for transportation we have 2 more categories:

  • Caterpillar: the work of caterpillars tend to be carrying very heavy loads such as vehicles and other tractors. It doesn’t have common wheels since they would collapse due to the weight of the loads. Instead they use some kind of chains that help to distribute the weight better.
  • Tyres: these ones are more popular, you will see them in constructions and so. They have very wide tyres in order to adhere well to ground and enjoy of extra stability.

The Excavator

An excavator is a lifting vehicle that usually uses the system of a caterpillar tractor to move (chains) but with the difference that this one can rotate its upper part at least 360 degrees.

This machine became very popular because of how useful it is in constructions. It can be used for demolishing, carrying heavy stuff and even to compact the ground.
There are two major categories in which different excavators can be classified:

  • Frontal excavator: this one has the spoon on the upside, enabling it to reach a higher place for discharging. It’s very useful for mining works.
  • Backhoe: this one has the spoon on its downside and its main purpose is to reach lower places. It’s very useful for the construction of ditches.

For a right handling of a backhoe (and certainly of any other lifting vehicle) training is required. We are the experts on training people to become operators and operate excavators as if they were extensions of their hands.

The Mini loaders

Sometimes speed is required, in order to move small loads from one place to another and take as little time as possible.

Mini loaders are lifting vehicles meant to be practical and work faster than excavators and tractors. As they are way smaller they are easier to operate. The main purpose of these vehicles is to carry out the same jobs a tractor would do but in smaller dimensions, and they are usually faster than tractors also. Due to their high functionality and practical size, some of them bring parts that can be used for different tasks, for example, there are some that bring a lawnmower.

If you need any kind of assistance with one of your lifting vehicles you can call us. We offer support regarding parts you should buy for your vehicles, services and more. We will test and monitor your lifting vehicle in order to put it to work at its full potential and save you a lot of money in unexpected repairs caused by the lank of maintenance.

Different types of forklifts and why using the electric one

A long time ago loading and unloading of workloads was a job that required long periods of time and significant effort. That being said there was a lot of money spent in personnel that could carry boxes, put them on the stocks, put them down, and everything else that was required to get the job done. With the advance of technology this simple task is no longer needed to be carried out by people. The automation of processes came when the forklifts were invented.

Nowadays, forklifts are everywhere. Loading is no longer a human task, and that is completely understandable since it was a very demanding physical task that can cause major problems such as hernias or muscle tears which can turn in massive amounts of money having to be paid by employers.

There are many types of different forklifts, it all depends on the kind of load, how narrow the aisles where they are supposed to circulate are and how much you are willing to spend. A good example of this is the narrow aisle forklift. They have been proved to be able to carry up to 20% more workload than usual forklifts, meaning that narrow aisle forklifts can save money thanks to how their pallets are positioned.

When looking for the right forklift you must keep in mind the needs you may have in your warehouse. Are you looking for a forklift with more loading potential? Or a faster forklift? By purchasing the right forklift you are ensuring your investment is save because it will pay off eventually.

Here in Hunter Liftrucks we offer you a wide range of different forklifts so you can choose the best option for your current needs. You can either buy a new forklift, a used one or hire the services of one. But our job does not end there, we also provide you with top quality services in order to prevent a shorter lifetime in our products.

Among the different types of forklifts we have:

  • The electric forklift which works with a big battery usually made out of lead and acid, it can last up to 8 hours. They do not produce gas so they do not pollute, they are the most convenient ones for internal spaces.
  • Internal combustion forklifts which work using oil, GLP or diesel. Not like electric ones, these ones can work as soon as the tank is re-filled.

And there are 7 different types of forklifts according to the international association of forklifts:

  • First Class: small vehicles with three solid wheels and a counterbalance in the back part. With only one seat for the operator. It can carry up to 3 tons of workload.
  • Second Class: small vehicles appropriate for reduced spaces like a warehouse aisles and so. With solid wheels. Among the best known models in this class there are:
    • Reach Trucks: they can reach 10 meters high and their counterbalance allows them to execute manoeuvres with more stability. They can carry up to 200 kilograms.
    • Orderpickers: they are made to carry many small loads at the same time. They allow the operator to elevate the rack and select the material to load. They can load up to 2000 kilograms
    • Turret Trucks: they have forks that can rotate up to 90 degrees. They can elevate these forks up to 14 meters in order to load the materials. They can carry up to 1.2 tons.
  • Third Class: they are smaller vehicles that operate manually, like wheelbarrows. The handles are in the back part or in the middle, depending of the model.
  • Fourth and Fifth Class: These are internal combustion vehicles, with a counterbalance and one seat inside where the operator sits. Fourth class have solid wheels while fifth class use inflatable ones.
  • Sixth and Seventh Class: forklifts from these classes have been designed for especially rough grounds which is the reason why it is more common in rural areas and zones under construction.

Depending on the case, some options may be better than others. In this article we will focus on the one we think is the most suitable option for inside space, especially small places with narrow aisles.

One of the most beneficial types of forklifts are the electric ones. It was a total revolution when it first came out, so let’s break down why it is so good.

The electric forklift

Electric forklifts have a wide range of advantages to offer. Just as electric cars they may not be as convincing but as it was said before, it depends on each people needs and an electric forklift can be the perfect solution for a business looking forward to minimise extra costs. They are also the most used non-polluting products in the food industry.

First, electric forklifts do not produce much noise, meaning that there will be a lot less sonic pollution in the workplace. This can be very beneficial since a lot of noise can the reason of constant headaches and malaise in many workers.

Second, they are very cost-effective. The costs of maintenance are very low but it is fuel where they save the most. As a simple comparison between an oil forklift and an electric forklift if one of each were put to work for the same period of time (one hour) the electric one would consume around 2 kilowatts, which are like 0.10 $ while the oil forklift would consume up to 1 gasoline gallon, which is like 1.30 $. A big difference.

Third, maintenance costs are also a very good reason to prefer electric forklifts. Oil forklifts have a combustion engine which is very difficult to clean due to the quantity of filters, oils, refrigerants and pollution controlling equipment it has.

Due to these reasons it looks like a way better investment purchasing an electric forklift even though when first buying it the cost of an electric forklift looks too much more than the cost of an oil forklift. Also an electric forklift is proved to be 30% – 40% more durable than an oil one.

A Few Tips and Tricks to shift the house materials

Moving, departing or even re-locating is a daunting experience for all families and individuals. Packing your life long possessions in boxes  to shift and heading off is a scary thought. How will you approach the situation? Who will assist you with moving? Are you contemplating on insurance policies? The plethora of questions often defeats the task in hand and incorrect decisions might be made. However, with the aid of Adelaide Furniture Removals, we establish rapport and guide our clients in successful furniture removals. Our expert team of removalists have extensive experience in the field and ensure high-quality service, each and every time. Throughout this blog, we will provide some miniature tips and tricks for preparing a moving scenario, which might be beneficial for small items and short distances.

Firstly, ensure that all boxes are never too heavy to shift. This might be a no-brainer, however, we have seen it all. Making boxes too heavy, in an attempt to cram more belongings in it can prove detrimental in the overall moving procedure. It can be tempting to do so, but once you exceed a weight limit the bottom corners of any box will deteriorate and prove impossible to lift accurately. Secondly, packing and storing all belongings is vital. Leaving things behind, or carrying furniture without any aid or packaging might result in damage and unforeseen errors. Following this, ensure that all your packaging is labelled accurately and with respect to what the specific box contains. Without going over the top with sophistication, utilising a sharpie or permanent ink marker will be more than enough to distinguish your items to shift  upon completion of the removal service. Also, utilising the utmost optimal tape plays a pivotal role in box functionality. Ensure you are using packing tape instead of masking tape. Masking tape is not engineered to support weight. Paper or packing tape is specifically designed to hold boxes together, alleviating the scenario of box splitting and rupture. Finally, the magic of bubble wrap should always be noted. Bubble-wrap assists in the packaging and distribution of fragile items. Utilise this material to ensure a smooth and safe transportation of your prized belongings.

With over 25 years of experience, Adelaide Furniture Removals are the leading furniture removal company, dedicated to client appreciation and exceptional work ethic. How to Move Difficult Household Items

There comes a time when you and your family decide it’s time to move on and relocate to a new area. Whether you are moving a few suburbs away, to the countryside or even to another state, relocating can be stressful and time-consuming. There are a variety of reasons why people decide to move houses. You may be moving for a new job opportunity, moving into a bigger home or just want a fresh new start in a different area of household.

When moving home, packing all your belongings takes time. You may have a lot of things you may need to pack or you may decide to get rid of some items that you may no longer need in your new home. It is possible for you to pack up and move all your items on your own, however, there may be some items that require extra attention household. Some of your belongings may need more care while others should not be moved at all. If you are having trouble moving certain items, we will discuss some items that are the most difficult to move.

Plants

Houseplants are one of the most common items most people don’t realise can be difficult to move. Moving plants are difficult because essentially you are moving a large container of dirt, which can get very messy. The only way you can guarantee that your plants won’t be affected by the move is to not move them at all, however, you will most likely want to bring your plant with you as opposed to leaving them behind with family or friends. If you are set on bringing your household plants to your new home, the safest way to move them is to transfer them into a plastic pot if they’re in the heavy ceramic ones.

When you move your plants, do this a few weeks before you plan on transporting them in order to give them time to adjust. After the plants have settled into their new pots, transport them inside your own vehicle rather than in a moving truck. This way you can keep an eye on your plants to prevent any damage.

Pianos

We all know that pianos are heavy and challenging to move. They are large and bulky, yet they have small and intricate parts inside that can be easily damaged. A lot of people tend to leave their pianos behind because of how difficult it is to move. If you do not want to leave your piano behind, the best solution is to hire a professional piano moving service. This is the safest and simplest way to get your piano moved into your new home. It’s best to leave this task to the professionals as they have experience and know exactly what to do. If you try and move your piano yourself, you may end up damaging the piano, the surrounding area such as the hallways or doorways or you may end up injuring yourself.

Fish tanks

Fish tanks are another incredibly difficult item to move. A lot of the time, the fish don’t survive the move because of the fluctuating conditions. Just imagine your fish being put into a moving truck and being sloshed around as the truck moves from point A to point B. This can cause stress and physical injury. If you want to move your fish, there are certain steps you can take to increase their chances of survival. First, you will need to empty out the fish tank most of the way but leave some water in the bottom. By leaving some water at the bottom, you can ensure the existing bacteria colony remains when you refill it. Take all your fish out of the tank and place them into small containers or bags using the original tank water household. When in transit, try and stabilise them as much as possible.

Once you have arrived at your new home, set up the fish tank as soon as possible. Float the bags or containers with the fish in the new tank to allow your fish to settle into the new temperature before completely transferring them into the tank for household. To ensure the transition is going smoothly, watch them for a few days and address any problems that may arise.

Artwork

Artwork is another difficult item to move. Artwork is typically expensive or has sentimental value, so moving it without causing any damages to it is important. The best thing you can do to protect your artwork is to wrap it in paper or bubble wrap if it’s in a frame. This will secure it and minimise the risk of damage. Once the artwork is wrapped, tape cardboard pieces around the wrapped frame for extra protection household. Then place it into a box and add packing peanuts to prevent it from moving around during the move.

If your artwork if not in a frame, heavily wrap it in bubble wrap and put it inside a box with a reinforced bottom. Fill the box up with packing peanuts and secure the top with tape. Remember to label all your boxes appropriately, especially your artwork boxes and note that they are fragile items to notify the movers or helpers to take extra care when handling them.

Pets

A lot of us have pets, whether it is a cat, dog, bird, or any other type of animal. As we all know that moving is stressful, you have to worry about relocating your family, belongings and most certainly not to forget about your beloved pets. Even though your pets may not necessarily be difficult to move physically, they can still be difficult to move if you haven’t done your research household.

  • Before you even decide to move to a particular area, check the pet laws and regulations of the place where you plan on moving to. Some areas have restrictions placed on pets and some places may require a special permit.
  • Be sure to transfer your pet’s health records from your current vet to the new vet for them to be able to provide the best care to your pet. Prior to moving, also make sure you take your pet for a check-up and to get all necessary vaccinations.
  • Remember to properly ID your pet by attaching an identification tag on their collar with your updated details. The details should include your pet’s name, your name, your address and phone number.
  • As we know moving can be stressful for us, all the extra noise and movement in your home can also create a stressful environment for your pet. A suggestion would be to make arrangements for your pet to stay with a friend or a kennel household. This way your pet stays happy as they get their food, medicine and walks.
  • Decide on the best transportation method as it’s important to make sure your pet isn’t stressed out.
  • A good idea is to get a pet carrier as it is essential for your pet’s safety and comfort. The carrier should be big enough for your cat or dog to stand up, turn around and lie down.
  • To keep your pet healthy and happy, you can treat them by giving them extra love and attention. The new environment for your pet can be overwhelming so by taking them to the park or giving them a new toy, it can help them settle in.
  • Create a new pet with your pet in mind and make sure to have all their things in place such as food, bedding, toys and other items your pet is used to. This will allow them to settle in and adjust to the new home in no time.

Avoiding Unreliable Removalists

Are you planning to move suburbs, to the country or interstate? Don’t know which removalists to choose for your move? There’s nothing worse than choosing a dodgy removalist which loses or breaks your items, fails to arrive at the scheduled time or even failing to arrive at all. What a nightmare! Damage to items during a move is bad enough, but loss of belongings and failure to provide the basic requirements of what a removalist should be providing is just not on.

Removalists Moving can be one of the most stressful times in your life. Having to pack all your possessions in boxes and given all to complete strangers hoping all your items arrive in the same condition you left them. Having to organise your electricity account switch over from the old home to your new one, cancelling and redirecting mail, notifying a huge list of companies your change of address and number, cleaning out the house and removalists do rid of unwanted items, and the list goes on and on… So much to do and sometimes in very little time. The whole experience can be quite frustrating as well as expensive, so it’s very important to ensure you don’t get ripped off by the removalist company in the process.

How to avoid shonky removalists

Here are some tips to avoid unreliable removalists and how to not get scammed, it can even help you save thousands of dollars. Choosing a removalist company is more than just taking the contents of your home for a rise. There are steps you can take to ensure what you’re paying for is reliable and trustworthy. With these steps, you can worry less about your move and let the experts handle everything with ease.

Do your research

First of all, do your research! Any expensive product or service you are interested in purchasing, you should always do your research first. Don’t choose the first company you find. Screen potential removalist companies by doing an online search and look up any complaints the company has had. Shop around by reading through customer reviews on independent websites. If anyone has had a bad experience with the company, it usually shows up on review type websites. If the company has a bad reputation and a lot of bad reviews, then you know well enough to avoid it. You may also want to ask your family and friends if they have any recommendations for companies they have used and were happy with.

Ask the right questions upfront

Asking questions upfront will ensure clarity all the details of the move. Some of the right questions to ask the removalist company are:

  • What is the total cost of the move?
  • What exactly is included in the cost?
  • Is it charged by the hour or is it a flat rate?
  • Are there any additional costs that need to be factored in?
  • How long will the move take?
  • If there are any delays on the day of the move, is there an extra cost involved for storage?

By asking upfront questions, you can be sure what to expect from the company and move on if the costs are out of your budget.

Get accurate and written quotes

After asking the right questions, ask for an accurate quote that is written. No reputable removalist company will give you an accurate estimate over the phone. Always insist on a written quote after providing detailed information about your move. Read through the quote thoroughly to ensure it is itemised and the company can account for every charge. Make sure everything is clear before you accept the quote and if you need more information about certain charges, be upfront and ask.

Compare quotes

Don’t just quote one company even if you think it is at a good price. Ask for several quotes and compare prices before you make your decision. If one company is significantly cheaper than the others, then it could be a sign that the company has hidden extra costs that they may demand after the completion of your move.

Get a clear contract

Make sure the contract you receive includes:

  • The complete details of the service being provided
  • The pickup and delivery address, dates and times of the move
  • A household inventory of all goods being moved
  • Details of insurance for any loss or damage

Confirm insurance

Find out whether the company offers insurance and what is covered by it. Taking out removalist insurance can be a good idea, especially if it’s a big move. Be careful with removalists that offer no damage guarantees. Accidents happen and if everything you own, including expensive and breakable items, is on the line, you may want to take precautions. No one can foresee road accidents or if one of your belongings is dropped during the move. There is usually a reason why certain removal companies don’t have or can’t get insurance cover.

Make sure the company has insurance and provide full disclosure of the fine print details. Don’t think that their insurance will cover everything only to find out it doesn’t cover certain goods like electronic items.

Tips and Tricks: Packing Your Fragile Items

Everyone knows that moving house is stressful. Having to pack away all your belongings and finding a reliable removalist to carefully handle all your goods. There is so much to organise and remember, that a lot of people end up leaving their packing to the last minute. This as you can imagine, will only cause you more stress before and after your move. Forgetting where certain things are and if you own a lot of fragile items, it may cause even more stress to your move.

Packing materials

If you own a lot of antique and fragile items, then you must take the extra care when packing up your possessions. Before you do anything, you need to make sure you have the right packing materials. Strong packing boxes are essential and it is always a good idea to get more than you think you will need. The chances are, you’ll mostly end up using them all. When packing your items, always reinforce the bottom of each box with tape and separate all items with paper or bubble wrap to prevent scratches. To further prevent scratches and breakages, a good way is to wrap your fragile items in towels and bed linen.

Consider whether the item you are packing is breakable and if it is, then wrap it up in bubble wrap and place it inside a box and add extra bubble wrap or newspaper inside for extra protection. Keep in mind that not only ceramic items and glassware can break, but items made from plastic, wood, and tin can all be damaged during transit if it is not packed up properly. The last thing you’d want is your items breaking in transit due to inadequate bubble wrap or protection.

If the item you’re packing is hollow, then it would be wise to add stuffing inside such as bubble wrap or newspaper. This helps prevent your item being crushed from the outside in. then place it inside a box and tightly fill it with paper or Styrofoam peanuts. For extra protection you can place that box inside another box, padding out the sides.

When packing mirrors or large paintings, you may want to use special large boxes that are flat and adjustable. Using corner protectors on your items will also help them inside the boxes and prevent from damage.

On the day of your move, let the removalists know which boxes contain fragile items and label each box accordingly. Using an experienced removal company will provide you with the peace of mind knowing that your antiques and prized possessions are in good and capable hands. Getting your valuable from one location to another in one piece takes certain skill. No matter how heavy or fragile your items are, a professional should be able to make your move a smooth and swift transition.
